James Borden
He was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on October 30, 1949.
Went through the public school system and graduated from New Bedford High School in 1967.
Started his political activism at age 24 when he ran an unsuccessful political campaign for the then newly created Plymouth – Bristol State Senate District.
During this time period he worked as a Special Education Teacher for the New Bedford School Department doing individual sessions with students of various special needs in different city schools.
He was also worked as a night time taxi driver, a night time bartender and worked for a non-profit organization which had a group home for teenagers who families were clients of Child Protective Services.
Worked with such national organizations such as Mobilization for Survival, Seirra Club and Amnesty International.
On the local level, he was president of the Greater New Bedford Nuclear Weapons Freeze Movement.
In 1976, he along with thousands of other people throughout the nation held a protest specifically against the Military Industrial Complex (not against the U.S. Military) in front of the Pentagon Building, on July Fourth, the two-hundred years anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
In the early 1980’s he moved to Hawaii, settling in Hilo, Big Island of Hawaii.
He became a substitute school teacher, teaching in 25 different schools across the island. Grades K to 12.
Also, he became employed working in many various types of non-profit human services organizations.
Received an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts, in 1998 from Hawaii Community College.
Received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology in 2000 from the University of Hawaii at Hilo
Received a Master of Science in Human Services in specialization of Management of Non-Profit Agencies in 2004 from Capella University.
He got very involved in the National Pro-life Movement working in the Hilo area in advocating pro-life awareness with the goal of over-turning the U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade of 1973.
In 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Roe v. Wade decision, sending the issue down to the individual states.
During his political activism career, he has had hundreds of opinion articles printed in local newspapers in Massachusetts and Hawaii.
This is his first published book.
